It is time to begin expressing our commitments to the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and our State Senators and State Representatives. Some of the people assigned to the Perrier project want to help, but they need to hear from us very loudly and very clearly so that the public may be involved in this decision making project. They have made it clear that one person making the request is not enough to justify public hearings. However, collectively our voices can be heard!

Following are suggested topics for letters to be mailed. The number of people that send in the letters is very important.

To: Governor Jennifer Granholm

Remind her of her opinion, as Attorney General, stated in a letter to Governor Engler that the Nestle Waters of North America withdrawal of water in Mecosta County was a diversion from the Great Lakes and needed the approval of the rest of the Great Lakes governors. Ask that she honor that opinion by asking for that approval.

A few more suggestions:

  • Make the letter timely.
  • Keep it short, clear and to the point
  • Ask for a reply with their position.
  • If possible, identify bills by title and number
  • State the reason for your position and tell how the issue will effect you
  • Use your own words and stationary
  • Use the proper form of address
