Dear Store Manager,

I am disturbed to see that your store has Ice Mountain (so called spring) water for sale. There are many reasons for this. The taking of water from the ecosystem of a natural spring damages the habitat for wildlife that depend on that source of water. This wildlife attracts millions of out-of-state tourists each year to our state and helps to provide a high quality of life for our residents who enjoy hunting, fishing, and nature watching.

Mining groundwater or "spring" water beyond the ability of the aquifer to recharge itself leads inevitably to diminishment of the aquifer, with long term consequences in the form of lower lake levels and the need for deeper domestic wells. Encouraging consumers to buy bottled water encourages them to ignore their local water supplies.

The Nestle Corporation (formerly known as Perrier and Great Spring Waters of America) is appropriating mega-amounts of our water for their corporate profit. The vast majority of this profit will leave the state and even the United States, as Nestle is a Swiss corporation.

For the above reasons, I do not consider your sale of Ice Mountain water to be in the best interests of our state. I will be making only minimal purchases at your store and will be encouraging my friends and neighbors to do the same.

Thank you
