Thank you to all of you who took the time to call or email your Senator or Representative on Monday and Tuesday.
Following is an email from Cyndi Roper from Clean Water Action:
The Senate passed SB 860 today, Wednesday, over the Great Lakes, Great Michigan coalitions objection and with clear communication from the two Democrats and one of the three Republicans that they support moving the bill forward to the full Senate but will be pushing for strengthening amendments during the floor debate. As reported from the committee, the bill is not something GLGM can support -- and Trout Unlimited testified against the bill as well.
Simultaneously, the House environment committee took up the strong House package and began taking testimony this afternoon. Testimony will continue tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. and a House workgroup meeting is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. tomorrow. We expect both Chambers to take up these packages next week and, I predict, the outcome of the legislative effort will be determined within the next eight days (before they go home for the weekend next Thursday).
We'll keep you posted. In the meantime, we need to keep hammering away with the message that we need more. One way you can help do this is by spreading the word about the http://www.michiganwaternotforsale.com and the http://www.greatlakesgreatmichigan.org website.
